Steve Yip on Responding to COVID-19 — We Need Revolution

Dear Friends

Like you, I have been at home looking out the window or getting bored just watching TV for almost a month.

  • Many, many have acquired COVID-19, and I myself have counted on my fingers at least 10 persons that we personally know who have been infected.
  • In prison, there is NO social distancing. We know that many of those incarcerated — like at Rikers Island, other prisons, and immigrant detention camps around the country — are suffering under horrid conditions where they have been rendered into Petris dishes for this novel coronavirus. This is a genocidal death penalty by COVID-19. And, listen, we cannot police people into public health either.
  • There are not enough tests or other required health care equipment to go around, despite whatever lies come out of Washington, D.C. Our healthcare workers are exhausted.
  • If you are of Asian heritage, like me, you look twice or three times around when you have to make a grocery run or to the doctor's office, or just get a quick breath of fresh air. This is reminiscent of the hate that was unleashed on Muslims, Arabs, and South Asians after the 9/11 tragedy, America is scapegoating Asians and Asian Americans. Now we hear the Republicans’ electoral strategy now hinges on scapegoating China. More outrageous abuses to come…
  • The maniac anti-science rantings by Trump on TV and the unleashing of his fascist social base around this health crisis are unbelievably disgusting.
  • And it is even worse as the pandemic spreads to parts of the world dominated by U.S. and other world powers, denying basic nutrition and health care where water and other basic amenities we take for granted are not available in normal times.

While our stimulus checks are arriving — the savage inequalities scream out at us. Some of us may be pensioners, but many others have lost their jobs and are in desperate conditions, waiting in lines for what food they can get (how safe is that?) — and for them that $1,200 check is a pittance compared to what they need to survive. And adding insult to injury, the checks will have the fascist thug-in-chief’s name on them — as if we could forget that the death toll was made so much higher by his dismissal of early warnings. (Let’s not forget mom-and-pops too.)

I want to say this: In these times of social distancing, we cannot afford to distance ourselves from what needs to be done in the face of this reality. Many don’t know what is next. But this we should know — the world does NOT have to be this way. We need REVOLUTION.

We live in America where a SYSTEM stands in the way of millions around the world working together to combat this pandemic.

  • Have you seen the _Communiqués_ from the National Get Ready for An Actual Revolution Tour (go here)?
  • Have you checked out the new weekly, and really cool, “The RNL Show” on youtube (go here)?
  • We should learn how an actual Revolution can and will confront such pandemics totally differently and qualitatively better and that there is leadership for that revolution in Bob Avakian. But most people don’t know about any of this. I invite you to check it.

The Revolution Tour is on a mission to change all that. That is why we are donating half of our “stimulus” checks to the Revolution Tour. I urge you to consider this and check out the following:
